3rd Annual Ormond Beach Celtic Festival

Event Details

Date: April 19 - April 21, 2013

Time: 10 am- 9 pm

Place: Rockefeller Gardens

Price: $5 per person (children under 12 free)

“Will ye be wantin’ a bit of haggis with that?” Ormond Beach’s third annual celebration of all things Celtic returns to Rockefeller Gardens on April 19, 20 and 21, 2013, expecting over 10,000 people in attendance.  Celtic vendors, Celtic food and, most importantly Celtic music will be featured for the duration of the festival.  The festival opens on the evening of April 19 with a whisky tasting and a concert featuring acclaimed Irish harpists Grainne Hambly and William Jackson, as well as the Scots pop band Drever-McGuire-Young.

“As Ormond Beach has Scottish lineage it is only fitting that it be host to a major Florida Celtic Festival embracing all of the Celtic nations – this year’s headliners come from Ireland and Scotland and include world champions on their respective instruments – we expect that the Celtic festival will be a continuing major component of Ormond Beach cultural endeavors,” said festival founder Chuck Spano—who is also involved behind the scenes in developing various Florida-based music festivals, hoping to bring the gift of music to as many folks as possible.

Everything moves outdoors on Saturday where, in addition to non-stop music on three stages, there will be an opportunity to watch real Highland Games including a Caber Toss, Sheaf Throw and Hammer Toss.  Rosie O’Grady’s pipe band will parade the grounds several times each day leading a procession of the gathered clans throughout around the park. There will be plenty of opportunities to fill your plate either with fresh food in the Celtic tradition or more American fare.  And, of course, there will be lots of Guinness and other beers to drink.

If the music makes you feel like dancing, be there at 5 pm Saturday, April 20 for the céilí – a Celtic dance party.  Festival musicians will provide the tunes on fiddle, flute, tin whistle, guitar and bodhrán.  Celtic caller will teach the steps and you’ll be jigging, flinging and stepping in no time.

As soon as the dance is over, the headliners take to the stage for an evening’s entertainment under the stars.

Whisky Tasting

Experience a magnificent evening with a whisky tasting to launch the Ormond Beach Celtic Music Festival. This year’s hosts are Art McIntosh and Terry Henson, founders of the Central Florida Malt Whisky Cabinet. This private whisky tasting club is fast becoming Central Florida’s premier whisky tasting experience. The “Cabinet” founders, Central Floridians Mr. McIntosh and Mr. Henson were honored to present the whisky tasting at the Central Florida Scottish Highland Games this January. The two men share their love of single malt whisky by presenting a unique collection of rare and special whiskys combined with music, education, poetry, and camaraderie. Expect to taste some Scottish single malt whiskys you likely have never sampled before. Come experience this very special night of single malt whiskys and whisky lovers; surely a night to be remembered.
