Florida Signature Outdoors Wedding at Honey Lake Plantation
One of the first buildings that the morning sun rays hit when it rises above the loblolly pines at Greenville’s Honey Lake Plantation Resort and Spa is the church. It’s also one of the last buildings that the setting sun hits when it drops over the plantation’s namesake lake. Brides and grooms often reflect on the beauty of the sun rising to illuminate the gorgeous stained glass or doing the same as it sets over the water as an Alpha and Omega of sorts. If you think about it, they’re exactly right.
The centerpiece for weddings lies in the plantation’s simple and elegant church. “I found a deconsecrated Presbyterian church in Madison County,” said owner/entrepreneur/founder Bob Williamson. “I offered to purchase the magnificent stained glass windows and pews. The windows and pews date back to the 1800’s and they fit perfectly in every way for the design that I had in mind. At the front of the church are floor to roof windows that offer a breathtaking view of Honey Lake. The church seats 250.”
What appeals to most wedding parties is the convenience of an event at Honey Lake Plantation Resort and Spa. Every building is within a two minute walk away. Williamson designed the plantation around a main campus that spans just over 100 acres of land. Lodging, reception areas, and the church all fall within that space, and the surrounding land provides the proper setting for outdoor activities. A Bentley-style limousine golf cart provides transportation for those who want or need it, with many wedding parties preferring horse-drawn carriages.
According to Jeri Bradley, Director of Sales for Special Events, “weddings at Honey Lake Plantation Resort and Spa are casual or formal, take your pick. Depending on the time of year, some brides prefer an outdoor ceremony and reception. The 6150 square foot Lakeside Pavilion overlooks Lake Obo. Seating arrangements can accommodate up to 400 guests inside and an unlimited number of guests outside. Receptions at the Pavilion are casual, and many brides wear cowboy boots with their wedding gowns. The combination of indoor and outdoor space creates a relaxed outdoor celebration. Brides preferring a more formal reception often favor the indoor Gathering Hall. Bob Williamson thoughtfully created a layout that is broken down into three different-sized rooms. A series of retractable walls can create the perfect sized reception hall. Smaller weddings enjoy either the Jasmine or the Whispering Pines Ballrooms, moderate-sized groups prefer the Red Hills Ballroom, and even larger groups can combine two or all three halls to suit. The flexibility offered in the Gathering Hall means that the perfect atmosphere can be created for any size wedding, with 500 guests in all three halls and smaller numbers in the individual rooms.”
The full-service Spa, Fitness Center and Salon ensures that brides and grooms prepare for their celebration in their own unique ways. For some, a vigorous cardiovascular warm up followed by a workout with free weights or exercise machines reduces stress. Others prefer a visit to the spa. The massage therapists specialize in offering body treatments that range from aromatherapy, reflexology, or traditional Deep Tissue, Swedish, and Hot Stone treatments. Eestheticians are available for full facials, manicure/pedicures, and lash tinting as well as wedding day make up. Relax in the Jacuzzi, swim in the pool, and when a bride’s time comes to walk down the aisle she’ll feel and look beautiful.
The details are where Honey Lake Plantation Resort and Spa really shine. Horse and carriage service, decks, and flames sparkling in the fire pits create romantic and intimate settings. Impeccably decorated interiors and expertly manicured exteriors contribute to outstanding photographs. Professional and experienced event coordinators create well-orchestrated, stress-free weddings and arrange for all details from white table linens with crystal stemware, silver flatware and white china.
