Ms. Crevoshay takes us through these developments with a special emphasis on jewelry in her delightful illustrated talk and draws parallels with our own time.

“The Vogue of French Wallpaper Decors in America: Trendsetters from Jefferson to Henry Du Pont”

Carolle Thibaut-Pomerantz will introduce us to a mural art form that many know little about. Yet, it is an important page in the history of the decorative arts and interior design. Very much in fashion since the XVIII century, English, French and Chinese wallpapers enhanced the homes of aristocratic and prosperous families throughout Europe, Russia and America. Some of the early trend-setters included Thomas Jefferson, Sir Horace Walpole, and Marie Antoinette. The vogue of these decors continued in America in the XX century amongst those involved in the decorative arts: Henry du Pont, Henry Sleeper, Frances Elkins and David Adler, Nancy McLelland, and Jacqueline Kennedy.
