Corvette Club of Orlando Discovers Alpacas in Plant City

The morning of Saturday, March 9, members of Corvette Club of Orlando gathered at Susan’s Cracker Barrel for Breakfast and then took Mike’s route down to Sweet Blossom Alpaca Farm in Plant City to learn about and socialize with alpacas.

Debbie & Narvel Pettis, owners of this quaint 9 acre farm love taking care of and working with the alpacas and are dedicated to continuously improving the genetics of the heard. They are a wonderful resource of information about the alpaca, do tours and maintain an impressive full-featured website and even have a vacation rental program on the farm. After CCO members had plenty of time to learn about, and socialize with the alpacas, then off for some country-style shopping at Southern Hospitality. CCO finished off the day over late lunch at Outback before returning to their Central Florida homes.

To visit Sweet Blossom Alpaca Farm, please give Debbie & Narvel Pettis a call to schedule an appointment. They would love to share any information about alpacas with you, what they’ve learned throughout their journey into the alpaca world, and answer any questions you might have.

FAU Harbor Branch “Love Your Lagoon” Dinner / Feb. 8, 2013

The second annual “Love Your Lagoon” dinner aims to raise awareness about one of our area’s most precious resources while raising funds to help preserve it.  Hosted by the Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute Foundation, the event will be held on Friday, February 8 at 6 p.m.  under the stars in the Harbor Branch Plaza.

This year’s guest of honor is Alto “Bud” Adams, Jr., who is best known for presiding over Adams Ranch, a 40,000-acre cattle ranch that spans over St. Lucie, Okeechobee and Osceola counties. The HBOIF board of directors selected Adams to serve as this year’s guest of honor because of his leadership in utilizing best practices in agriculture, greatly benefitting the lagoon.  Proceeds from the “Love Your Lagoon” dinner support FAU Harbor Branch’s ongoing Indian River Lagoon Observatory research and outreach efforts.
