Fort Pierce Waterfront Getaway

It’s an image that lingers in my mind, waterfront village lifestyle in downtown Fort Pierce back in 2007— Travel and Leisure Magazine ranked top 20 America’s Greatest Main Streets. That warm feeling came alive in my recent visit to the city where five years ago I moved my wife  and two sons Charles and Christian to start our new life and business.

After meeting with some of Fort Pierce brightest city leaders, I was hungry and could not wait to visit my favorite place to eat—P.P. Cobb’s General Store and Delicatessen. The downtown Fort Pierce store for years has transported shoppers back in time with its retro candy, organic “hippie soap,” old-timer sodas and unique craft beer, and the ’40s tunes playing from its speakers. Owners Yuko, prepared Turkey Panini with Cranberry Sauce, while husband and co-owner Thom Weisser shared with me the difference between authentic flavors of 7Up in a bottle from Mexico vs. ones in a can.

I ended my day by driving over to Fort Pierce’s South Beach to see a new beach park  and watch families playing and fishing. I definitely recommend you veer off I95 or the Fl Turnpike and checkout historic downtown Fort Pierce and the beaches.

Backus Museum and Historic, Cobbs Landing, Original TIKI Bar and Restaurant at the marina, Sunrise Bakery, a taste of Italy at Uncle Carlo’s Gelato and performance at the Sunrise Theater as you take in the beautiful sights along Florida’s Nature Coast.

Fort Pierce Inlet State Park

Ft. Pierce is a favorite among Florida surfers. It’s not uncommon to see birdwatchers, beachcombers and anglers here either. By boat, board, bike or foot, there’s no wrong way to experience this coastal gem.
